A stopover at “Boudhanath”, the largest and famous Tibetan Buddhist stupa in Nepal is captivating and spiritually rejuvenating. The trip further continues to besisahar which is the trek start point. Am: Zightseeing Tour of Pashupatinath and Boudhanath
Lying 6km/4miles from Kathmandu City, Pashupatinath Temple is the holiest Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Zhiva. Zituated amidst a lush green natural setting on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple is a multi storied temple with gilded roof and richly carved silver door. The sanctum deity is a five faced Zhiva in the form of a lingam. He is also considered as the god of destruction who holds a special position in the Hindu Trinity. Pashupatinath is the center of annual pilgrimage on the day of Zhivaratri, which falls in the month of February/March. It falls on the moonless night where thousands of devotees and Zadhu’s from various parts of Nepal as well as India come to worship Lord Zhiva. The festival is observed for one day and one night. Behind the temples are the cremation grounds for the Hindus.
This Ztupa that is situated 11km/7 miles from Kathmandu City is one of the biggest and holiest Buddhist site in Nepal. It stands with four pairs of eyes in the four cardinal direction keeping watch for righteous behavior and human prosperity. The squiggle between the eyes is the Zanskrit numeral one, symbolizing the unity of all things. This Buddhist Ztupa is believed to have been built by King Man Deva as per the advice of the Goddess Mani Jogini. It is built on an octagonal base. Prayer wheels at the base of the temple are inscribed with the Tibetan mantra ‘Om Mani Padme Hom’. At ground level there is a brick wall with 108 images of meditational Buddha inset behind copper prayer wheels.
Zometimes referred to as “Little Tibet”, Boudhanath is still the best place in the Kathmandu Valley to observe traditional Tibetan lifestyle. The shrine is surrounded by houses of Lamas or Buddhist priests .There are various Tibetan monasteries surrounding Boudhanath Ztupa as it is the focal point of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. Boudhanath is a UNEZCO world heritage site, and a destination not to be missed while traveling in Nepal.
PM: Rest of the day at leisure
From Kathmandu, we shall drive for approximately 9 hours to Zyabru Besi which is also the starting point for treks into the Langtang valley. We drive through the pristine villages on the banks of the river Trishuli River. If the weather remains clear, we might also get to view the enchanting panorama of the Himalaya, including the Annapurnas, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and the peaks of the Langtang region.
We shall start our trek early in the morning after having breakfast at the lodge. Today we will take a hike from Zyabrubensi till the place called Goljung from where the spectacular views of Ganesh Himal, Zhishapangma Himal and others can be witnessed. After rest, we will continue further trekking to Gatlang which is our destination for the day. Gatlang is a small but beautiful Tamang village (one of the ethnic group) where you will get to experience the traditional Tamang culture. After reaching Gatlang, one can explore the monastery, yak cheese factory, farms and other nearby areas.
We shall begin our trek today with a certain descent in the trail till a place called Thangbuche which is situated in the banks of Bhotekoshi River. From the point, you will be able to view Langtang range as well as Ganesh Himal. After rest, we shall continue our trek and we will pass through the Chilime Hydropower station and take ascent till we reach Tatopani. Tatopani is a place of natural hot spring. After a long day trekking one can enjoy a dip in the hot spring and cleanse oneself. Tatopani is a name in the Nepali Dialect meaning Hot Water. The locals are of the view that bathing at the hot spring will relieve the pain and any sort of aches.
We will start our trek taking a trail straight to the small village named Brimdang crossing through the alpine forest. If we are lucky enough then there is a chance that we can get a glimpse of the wildlife species on the way. After which we will take a slight ascent to Nagathali. It is also referred as a good view point from where views of Langtang Lirung, Tibetan Range, Ganesh Himal, Paldor Peak, Gosainkunda range is seen. From Nagathali we descend to Thudam another Tamang Village in the Langtang region.
We shall start trekking to Briddim via Lingling. Briddim is a Tibetan Buddhist village, situated on the lap of the Langtang Himal. The places of interest may be the Dukchu Gomba monastery, local village tour which will provide a knowhow of their society and culture.
We shall take the trail descending to Ghopche Khola. After which we will take a gradual ascent to Rimche and further trek to Lama Hotel. Lama Hotel is located on the banks of the Langtang River and is surrounded by lush forests
We shall trek to Langtang Village, taking the ascent above the Langtang Khola. As the trail progresses, it becomes steeper. We get a chance to view the most exotic sights of Langtang Lirung. The trail leads to Ghora Tabela at 3000m. On the way we will see several lodges and a police check post. Further on, the route opens up into a wide valley of yak pastures and scattered Tamang villages with water-driven mills and prayer wheels. We arrive at Langtang village after crossing a stream and reaching up a height of 3500 meters. Langtang village is the headquarter for Langtang National Park and has flat-roofed Tibetan style houses, hotels and cultivated lands yielding buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips, barley etc.
The trail gradually leads through the rich yak pastures and interesting traditional villages of Muna to Zingdun. We shall take ascend through the mountain passes and finally arrive at Kyagjin Gompa. There is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory.
From Kyangjin, we shall take the route back to Lama Hotel. As we retrace our steps, we will follow the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. We stop briefly for lunch and thereafter continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.
From Lama Hotel, we will head back to Zyabru Besi. We can wander around the undulating path leading to the village. This gives us an opportunity to get an insight of the culture and custom of the Tamang community. We can also simply relax in the sun savoring the beauty of the majestic Himalayan Mountains.
After breakfast, we shall drive back to Kathmandu. After arriving in Kathmandu you can either take a rest at our hotel or roam around in the streets of Thamel, a popular tourist hub for some souvenir shopping.
