The adventure begins with a spectacular 20-minute mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840m / 9,186ft), regarded as one of the most scenic air routes in the world, landing dramatically on a hillside surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks.
Upon arrival in Lukla – the gateway to the Everest region, we meet our trekking crew and take time to organize gear and supplies before setting off on the trail. The trek starts with a gentle descent, and after about an hour, we reach the village of Cheplung, offering our first glimpse of Mount Khumbila (5,760m / 18,900ft), a sacred peak that has never been climbed.
From Cheplung, the trail continues with an easy walk through beautiful scenery as we gradually descend to Phakding, where we spend the night.
Walking through a beautiful pine forest, the trail follows north along the Benkar Valley, crossing the Dudh Koshi River and passing the villages of Chumoa and Monjo, the official entrance to Sagarmatha National Park.
After crossing a suspension bridge, we pass through Jorsale village and continue walking alongside the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. The trail then climbs steeply toward the Sherpa heartland, leading us to Namche Bazaar, the vibrant trading hub of the Khumbu region.
If weather conditions permit, the ascent rewards us with our first breathtaking views of Mount Everest (8,848m), Nuptse (7,879m), and Lhotse (8,511m).
Namche Bazaar offers a perfect setting for acclimatization, with plenty of opportunities to rest, explore, and gradually adjust to the altitude. As the main commercial and cultural hub of the Khumbu region, Namche features government offices, ATMs, internet cafés, shops, restaurants, and a lively local market.
Accompanied by our guides, you can explore the authentic charm of this Sherpa town or enjoy short acclimatization hikes in the surrounding hills. A hike toward Sagarmatha National Park is especially rewarding, offering stunning sunrise views and panoramic vistas of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde, and other Himalayan peaks.
Today’s trek takes approximately 5–6 hours, following a scenic and pleasant trail beneath the soaring peak of Thamserku. The path gently descends to the Imja Khola, where we stop for lunch at Phunki Tenga, home to a series of traditional water-driven prayer wheels.
In the afternoon, we begin a steady ascent of around two hours to Tengboche (Thyangboche). Upon arrival, we are rewarded with magnificent mountain views and the spiritual atmosphere of the renowned Tengboche Monastery. Surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks, with yaks grazing on nearby meadows and monks chanting their prayers, this setting is often regarded as one of the most beautiful and serene places in the world.
Today we follow the Imja Khola Valley, gradually ascending toward Pangboche (3,900m), one of the oldest Sherpa settlements in the region. Here, we pause for lunch and visit the historic Pangboche Monastery, known for its cultural significance and fascinating local legends, including the famous Yeti relics.
In the afternoon, we continue our trek toward the picturesque summer village of Dingboche, surrounded by stone-walled fields and towering Himalayan peaks. Throughout the day, we are treated to superb mountain scenery and expansive valley views.
Today’s trail gradually ascends along a small ridge before contouring around the base of the Khumbu Glacier, surrounded by dramatic alpine landscapes. We stop for a light lunch at Dhugla (4,600m), a small settlement nestled beneath towering peaks.
From here, a short but steep climb leads us to the terminal moraine of the glacier, where stunning views of icy terrain, rugged mountains, and memorials to past climbers create a powerful and memorable setting. Continuing along the moraine, we make our way to Lobuche (4,930m), situated at the foot of the Lobuche Icefall, where we settle in for the night.
Today marks one of the most rewarding highlights of the trek as we make our way toward Kala Patthar, the best viewpoint in the Everest region. Although the distance is not far, we walk slowly and steadily to adjust to the high altitude, first reaching Gorak Shep, where we stop for a light lunch and short rest.
From here, we begin the gradual but challenging ascent to Kala Patthar (5,545m). The climb requires effort, but the views from the summit are truly unforgettable. Surrounded by vast glaciers and towering Himalayan giants, the silence of the high mountains is broken only by the creaking of shifting ice. Peaks such as Pumori, Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse rise dramatically around us, while Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) stands majestically above all — a breathtaking sight often described as the “Roof of the World.”
After soaking in the spectacular panorama and capturing memories, we descend back to Gorak Shep for an overnight stay.
Please note: Depending on weather and trail conditions, the visit to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar may be adjusted between today and the following day for safety and the best experience.
After an unforgettable time at Everest Base Camp, we retrace our steps along the glacier, descending gradually toward Pheriche (4,260m), where we stop for lunch and a well-deserved rest.
In the afternoon, we follow the lower trail toward Pangboche, enjoying easier walking and beautiful views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. The descent provides a welcome change in altitude and a relaxing end to the day’s journey. Overnight in Pangboche.
We retrace our steps along the same trail, descending from Pangboche back to Namche Bazaar. This return journey allows us to enjoy familiar scenery from a new perspective and reflect on the highlights of the trek so far. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
The trail descends steeply, requiring careful footing as tired legs navigate the rocky terrain. Along the way, we cross several suspension bridges spanning the fast-flowing Dudh Koshi River and its tributaries, taking in the rushing waters and surrounding Himalayan scenery.
